Why Leaders Must Bring the HEAT

By Casey Cunningham | June 3, 2025 | Leadership

You walk in ready to motivate—but your team feels flat.
You’ve brought strategy, tools, and training…but something’s still missing.
And deep down, you’re wondering: “Is my energy the problem?”
What if your presence—not your process—is what truly drives performance?

Are You Fueling or Draining Your Team’s Performance?

I’ll never forget the moment 50 salespeople said the one thing they’d miss most from training was… my energy.

I had just rebuilt my business from zero, testing an online course model for the very first time. I wasn’t sure if it would work—but I gave it everything. Eight weeks later, I asked one powerful question: “Would you pay for it again?” Every single person said yes.

But it was their second answer that hit me harder: “We’ll miss your energy.”

The Trap

It’s easy to think your strategies and systems are what drive team performance. They help—but the real driver? You. Your attitude. Your presence. Your energy. We often overlook the emotional tone we set. If you walk in flat, distracted, or defeated, your team feels it—and reflects it. Without realizing it, you might be the ceiling on their potential.

The Fix

Start by asking yourself each day: What kind of energy am I bringing? Is it inspiring? Focused? Do I show I care? Your presence doesn’t need to be perfect, but it must be intentional. Your energy should say, “I believe in us. Let’s go.” Smile more. Show up early. Give praise. Speak with conviction. You don’t need to be loud—you just need to be present, positive, and powerful.

Your Challenge

This week, be the spark. Walk into your next team meeting like your energy determines the outcome—because it does. Your team is watching, mirroring, and counting on you.
