Are the people closest to you helping you grow—or holding you back?
I’ll never forget the day someone told me the secret to becoming Richie Rich.
I was a young girl, watching the cartoon, dreaming big, and telling everyone I was going to be him one day. One accomplished salesperson heard me say it and leaned in:
“You know how to be that, right? Surround yourself with people who are already there.”
That moment changed everything for me.
The Trap
Most of us don’t realize how much our environment influences us.
We spend time with the same people, never stopping to ask: Are they challenging me or keeping me comfortable?
Whether you want financial growth, better health, deeper faith, or sharper mental focus, your habits reflect the people closest to you.
I’ve seen it over and over—the people who grow are the ones surrounded by others who push them. Take your five best friends, average their income—and that’s likely where you’re at.
But this isn’t just about money. It’s about mindset, energy, and personal growth.
The Fix
Start with a reality check.
Who are your five? Look at your circle. Ask yourself:
-
Are they inspiring you?
-
Do they challenge your thinking?
-
Are they growing themselves?
You need people in your life who are further ahead than you—people who make you want to level up.
If you can’t find them in person, find them in podcasts, books, and online communities.
Be intentional about building what I call your “advisory board.” These are the people who help you rise, who speak life into your dreams, and who don’t let you settle for less.
The Challenge & CTA
Here’s your challenge today:
- Pick one area of your life where you want to grow—just one.
- Now, identify one person who's ahead of you in that space.
- Reach out. Ask a question. Watch how fast you grow when you put yourself around the right people.
