Would You Walk Away from Success with No Backup—Just Belief in Your Purpose?
I had the title, the income, and the respect. But I was tired—not just physically, but spiritually. One day, I walked away. No plan. Just a burning question: Why am I here?
I’d spent years building a career I thought defined me. But when I sat on my back porch with nothing but silence, I saw the truth. I wasn’t in purpose—I was in comfort. And comfort can kill purpose if you let it.
The Trap
Here’s the trap: we confuse “busy” with “aligned.” I was high-achieving but hollow. When you’re off-purpose, exhaustion feels different—it’s not just fatigue, it’s soul-drain. And that’s where I was. I had choices, sure. But none of them lit me up. That was the clue.
Too often, we ignore that signal. We keep climbing ladders leaning on the wrong wall. We think tired means we need a break—but sometimes it means we need a breakthrough.
The Fix
So what did I do? I got still. I asked myself, “When do I feel the greatest joy?” For me, it was in front of a room—teaching, inspiring, watching others light up. That’s my purpose.
I stopped chasing roles and started chasing impact. I created a life around that clarity. No safety net, but full conviction. And it changed everything.
If you're unsure, try this:
-
Ask yourself the joy question
-
Reflect in silence, not chaos
-
Don’t wait for perfect conditions—they rarely come
Challenge
Here’s your challenge: Ask the real questions. What gives you energy? Who are you meant to serve? Burn the boats that hold you back—maybe not literally, but mentally.
Find your purpose, even if it scares you.
